September Demonstration - Pastels - Shelly Eager

Our September meeting featured another remarkable artist...Shelly Eager...an award winning artist ....an informative teacher... a respected juror....and a very interesting presenter of her technique in the art of painting with pastels.

Shelly's love of antiques is a constant source of inspiration to her and she uses them very often in her work. This painting of a vintage ladies hat as seen in the window of an antique shop was chosen by Shelly for her demonstration to our group.

This is a close-up shot of her work on the bricks in the window. Working from light to dark she quickly developed the shape, color and texture of the brickwork. We were able to see the way she brought this effect into the backdrop of her painting with quick, positive strokes of the pastel sticks.

Cheryle Ward showed one of her wall hangings that she created as part of our project with the quilting group. She painted a few birds for the center square and completed it with a very colorful quilted frame. This is one of many quilted/squares to be on sale at the October Craft Fair.

Steve Williams was thrilled to be the lucky winner of Shelly's demo art. She was kind enough to donate the painting for a meeting ending raffle.
