OAK POINT’s ‘ART AFFAIR’ was a success

Last evening, over (150) art enthusiasts joined the Oak Point Art Association and Hometown America for our first annual ‘Oak Point Art Affair’. The abundance of artistic talent here at Oak Point is beyond comparison and it is a credit to the Art Association to have been able to display dozens of magnificent pieces at this inaugural event.

November Demonstration - Kris Occhino - Watercolor.

Our November 11 meeting featured Kristina Occhino, an award winning artist and teacher. Kris is a much sought after instructor in watercolor and acrylics. She teaches painting in her Treetop studio in Attleboro. She chose a watercolor landscape for her demonstration to the Association members, and some of our guests.  Kris used color, light and detailed rendering as she developed her painting. Her running commentary provided instruction and reasoning as her work progressed. It was very plain to see why she is a respected teacher in the area. We had the opportunity to use our new overhead mirror that enables everyone to have a better view and allows the artist to keep face to face contact with their audience.
Kris generously donated her finished demo painting for a meeting ending raffle. Sue Dalton was thrilled to be the lucky winner of the beautiful landscape

Plymouth Art Guild Juried Show.

Congratulations to Janet Ilmonen and John Crutchfield for having their entries accepted in the Plymouth Guild's annual juried show. The examination process for this prestigious exhibit is very critically followed by the show's acceptance committee. A relatively small number of the hundreds of submissions are selected for final review by the jurors. A very difficult and vitally important first step. Artists, including Janet and John, are always excited to learn that their work has made it to the final selection by the show's jurors.
We will attempt to obtain photos of their art for posting...Janet's two striking photos of Boston and John's acrylic marine painting were in the final judging.
Andrew Kusmin won Best Watercolor in the show...we are pleased to have Andrew as one of our guest artists in 2016

September Demonstration - Pastels - Shelly Eager

Our September meeting featured another remarkable artist...Shelly Eager...an award winning artist ....an informative teacher... a respected juror....and a very interesting presenter of her technique in the art of painting with pastels.

Shelly's love of antiques is a constant source of inspiration to her and she uses them very often in her work. This painting of a vintage ladies hat as seen in the window of an antique shop was chosen by Shelly for her demonstration to our group.

This is a close-up shot of her work on the bricks in the window. Working from light to dark she quickly developed the shape, color and texture of the brickwork. We were able to see the way she brought this effect into the backdrop of her painting with quick, positive strokes of the pastel sticks.

Cheryle Ward showed one of her wall hangings that she created as part of our project with the quilting group. She painted a few birds for the center square and completed it with a very colorful quilted frame. This is one of many quilted/squares to be on sale at the October Craft Fair.

Steve Williams was thrilled to be the lucky winner of Shelly's demo art. She was kind enough to donate the painting for a meeting ending raffle.

Art and Coffee.

Hull Artists Open House - July 11-12

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once again, we were given an opportunity to host one of the monthly Coffee and Donuts events, and, on June 27, we used the morning to present a wall-to-wall display of our art. Fourteen of our members brought in about seventy five pieces of art for the enjoyment and review of our neighbors. About 150 people were treated to this exhibit, and their comments were very complimentary of our efforts. These photos show several views of the art, including our new Art Association banner that was created by Greg Gale.

Bob Weikel stands next to several examples of his art. They give insight into his versatility as an artist. He continually challenges himself by selecting new mediums for his art as shown in these done in four different media.

John Crutchfield painted this marine which shows his realistic approach to his subjects. A careful study of his work reveals the detail that John establishes in his oil paintings

J. Marshall Dyke

Our June 10th meeting features Hull artist, John Marshall Dyke who gave us a very informative watercolor demo. About 30 members and a few guests followed every move as John took us through his presentation, with help from his friend, Marie.

The Boston Light was John's subject and he explained his process as the watercolor was created. He does little drawing of his planned art, instead he "draws " with his brush as he develops his painting.

John gave us a little extra demo as he created a separate piece. He quickly dashed off several, random, wet on wet washes of color that were later turned into a loose still life of a bouquet of flowers by adding some carefully placed brush strokes. Very effective technique.

Norma Brown was the lucky winner of the demonstration artwork that John donated for a raffle...and one of our members was able to buy the small painting of the flowers. All in all, it was a very full afternoon of art for art lovers.

Nancy Sargent Howell.

Nancy Sargent Howell gave us a colorful, detailed, informative and entertaining demonstration at our April 8 meeting.

Over 30 attendees were very engaged with her presentation of how she develops her paintings.

Nancy used some small photos to establish the drawing of her subject, a single magnolia blossom.

Using a limited palette of six colors, three or four brushes, she magically created a wonderful watercolor, almost a portrait.

Marge Wagner was thrilled to be the lucky winner of the demo artwork.

Nancy was so well received, we hope to be able to have her return for an encore performance.

Max Verga showed us one of the pieces for the project being developed by the Quilting Club and the Art Association.
We have given a number of paintings on cloth to the Quilting Club to be incorporated into their finished pieces.
Nancy Kelly painted a flower on cloth that Max surrounded with a quilted border to produce a very attractive combination artwork.
All the finished pieces will be displayed and sold at the upcoming Craft Fair.

Edwina Caci Portrait Demonstration - March 11, 2015.

Bob Weikel won our raffle and was Edwina Caci's model for her oil painting portrait demonstration at our March 11 meeting.

She produced a two hour portrait which she said was only a sketch but we all thought it was truly magical.Edwina is small in stature but really big in talent.

We had a very attentive and good sized audience.

About 40 were pleased that we were able to reschedule her after the February snows forced a cancellation of her February 11th demo.

Bob received an extra bonus with his portrait when Edwina offered to take it back to her studio and add some finishing touches.

We will try and get some photos of it when it is returned to Bob so we can see the results of her work.
